AMIENS

Administrative centre of Picardie, is situated in the northern part of the metropolitan area of Paris, at 100km away from the capital. Right at the heart of the thriving Paris - London –Brussels, with gateway to all major European exchanges, an extremely dense motorway and road network, directly geared to Europe (north-European TGV, Channel tunnel).

AMIENS is a very active industrial and technological place, top-level services and superb available natural spaces. AMIENS, a green and blue city, offers the visitors a rich heritage, both ancient and modern: the cathedral, the museum, the city hall, the courthouse, the circus, remarkable houses and public buildings. AMIENS is in the middle of a territory in charming and historic landscapes, as example the Hortillonnages: unique site located in the original riverbed of the Somme, covering 300 hectares of small islands, floating gardens, criss-crossed by 55km of canals. AMIENS is not only a beautiful and pleasant city with 180 000 inhabitants.

 AGRICULTURE IN PICARDIE

AMIENS is in the centre of the second greatest agricultural area in France. The most important productions are: wheat, sugar beat, potatoes and vegetables as chicory or beans, spinach or peas for tinned industries and also wine (Champagne!). The Picardie is also a breeding area. It is normal in these conditions to have in AMIENS and its environs very important agricultural research centres and a lot of food and tin industries (We planned to visit some of them during the congress).
